2011-12 NCAA COLLEGE FOOTBALL BOWL POOL
A L A B A M A ! ! ! 21-0 rout of LSU to become National Champions. The SEC has now won the last 6 National Titles. The first-ever BCS shutout! Nothing like last years Oregon-Auburn game. Even if you had picked LSU, come the end of the game, weren’t you rooting for them NOT to cross the 50-yard line? Shows how hard it is to beat the same team twice in one season!
Congratulation to PDMAC (San Diego’s Peter McArthur) for winning our 2011-12 College Football Pool. PDMAC was going to be our winner REGARDLESS of the outcome of the final game – a very nice position to be in. This scenario has now happened 3 years in a row in our pool. ZACZOEMAX (Josh Berman) last year & QUASIMODO (Doug Banker) the year before that! Peter dominates this year - a whopping 34 points ahead of his closest competitor with a grand total of 344 points getting 22 of 28 winners. In 2011 it was 318 points with 21 winners & in 2010 it was 269 points with only 18 winners. What a superb job of picking - Peter’s 6 losses were mostly ‘low-pointers’: 23 (Miss. St.) – 2 (Georgia Teck) – 4 (UCLA) – 6 (Ohio St.) – 18 (Clemson) – 9 (Pitt). That’s maxxxxximizzzzzing your loses!
As you can imagine, correct points from the last game was critical to others entries: Had LSU covered (haha) – JACK ROSE would have finished 6th instead of Out-Of-The Money. YOUNGWALLACE (Bradley Wallace) & JON GIDAN would have finished 11th & 12th respectfully. On the other side, with the ALABAMA cover, these 4 make the final cut rather than being Out-Of-The-Money: last years winner, MAXZOEZAC (Josh Berman) finishes 7th - LARR (Larry Fulop) finishes 9th – BENGALSBLOW (Aaron Butkus) finishes 11th and DOUG n’ MATT FREEMAN squeak in 12th Place.
Special note to our 6th Place finisher, JORDANSMOM (Sheri Weinstein) who finished 9th last season - she makes her picks based on if she knew someone or something about the school or state >> nothing to do with football) With 2 bowl games to go, she still had a chance to win the pool! There were 120 official entries (there were 111 last season). We will pay-out to the Top-12 slots.

BONUS PRIZE: $595. to the entry with the most wins – 22 of 28 was that number! Had LSU covered, PDMAC would have still won the pool, but, he would have had to share this $$ with 2 other winners with 21 Overall wins (EL GUAPO CANTINA & JACK ROSE) . So he really had a wager of $396. on the line in the BCS Championship and the other 2 had $198. each on the line.
Notice there were 2 multiple winners this season: FLY ‘EM IN (Richard Bren) is very strong with a 2nd and 3rd place finish, this, after finishing in 2nd place last year! SKILL or LUCK? QUASIMODO (Doug Banker), a consistent winner over the years finishes in 8th and 10th this season.
Of our 28 games – FAVORITES dominated covering 19 of 28 (last year it was 14-14).
MOST POINTS WITH A LOSING RECORD:
62th PLACE – MCASSIDY1 (Michael Cassidy) 13-15 record with 225 points.
MOST POINTS (in the $$) WITH THE FEWEST WINS:
6th PLACE – JORDANSMOM (Sheri Weinstein) 17-11 record with 296 points.
FEWEST WINS WITH THE MOST POINTS:
111th PLACE – FISHBEAN (Bennett) 8-20 record with 148 points.
FEWEST POINTS WITH A WINNING RECORD:
35th PLACE – BOBBY BLAND (Bobby Bland) 15-13 record with 252 points.
In LAST PLACE: with a 9-19 record and only 101 points was one of QUASIMODO’s entries!
In our pool: 50 of the 119 entries picked over 50% going at least 15-13, that’s 42% !
BOWL TID-BITS: 18 of the 34 games were decided by a TD or less and 8 of those by a FG or less, there were a lot of close games with the ‘spread’ as well . . . highest scoring Rose Bowl ever with 83 total points by Oregon & Wisconsin . . . by themselves, West Virginia scored 70 points over Clemson . . . the BIG 12 went 6-2 / the PAC 12 went 2-5 / the ACC went 2-6 / the Mid-America Conference went 4-1 . . . Georgia Tech blew a 24-10 4th qtr lead and lost to Utah in OT . . . Georgia had a 16-0 halftime lead and lost in 3-OT.
In LAST PLACE: with a 9-19 record and only 104 points is FLY ‘EM IN (Richard Bren’s other entry) – not the one that finished in 2nd place!
Once again, Happy New Year to all..... Checks to be mailed on Friday.
That's it until the 2012 NCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL POOL!
