WEEK 18 ( FINAL RESULTS for the 2010 Season ) . . . . THE WEEK: Nothing like winning the Final week of the season – come to think of it – Nothing like winning ANY week the season! Quite a January 2 for GIMPE (David Ellman) who entered the last game of the season with 13 winners and needed SEATTLE’s ‘stunning’ performance in their ‘play-in’ game vs the Rams to prevent a 3-way weekly tie with PB & J (Mitch & Jack Rose) & MOE LAWNS (Peter Baron & Ross Zapin). We all know that Seattle won and is the 1st NFL team in history to make the playoffs with a losing record! David solos the weekly $1,100. Going 14 of 16 for the week – his 2 losses being Carolina and the the NY Giants. Unfortunately, for GIMPE, even with his 14 wins in Week 17 – he falls 1 short of a $$ Top-15 finish jumping from 35th Overall to end up T-16th. Even with ‘not knowing who will show or who will play’ in Week 17, on the whole, the pool did great >> 80% went at least 8-8 >> 64% went at least 9-7 >> 38% had 10+ wins. As for the Top-15 entering the last week: only 1 team broke thru - MONTY’S REVENGE (Neil Gallow), with 12 wins this week and THE RANGERS (Cliff Silver) fell out with 8 wins this week, that is tough! 8 weekly wins was the lowest total of any of the Top-15 team entering Week 17 – a job well done by all contenders. LOW PICKER(S) OF THE WEEK: only 5 wins for Week 16s Solo winner MANDINGO (Cliff Cantor) and a repeat performance by last weeks low picker HANSAM (Eric Wasserman). THE GRID: Lets all congratulate SO CAL REBS (Jon Scott & Jim McGory) for their very strong finish, holding on to 1st Place the last 2 weeks of the season. (they were also leading after Week 13). A Partial winner in Week 10 was the only Weekly check they received. They were in the Top-4 ever since that. They had 8 of 18 week with 10+ winners >> that’s tremendous! The last $$ finish for these winners was T-13th in 2007. Jon did win the pool in 1996 as the KAUAI RAINBOWS. They finished T-21st last season. They end up winning by just ‘1’ with 149 Overall Wins (up 7 from last year - a strong 58.2%). Compared that to 2009 & 2008: 142 wins (55.5%) and to 2007: 150 total wins (58.6%) and to 2006: 144 total wins (56.3%) and to 2005: 152 total wins (59.4%). SHAYJACK (J.P. Williams), the recipient of 1 solo weekly win & 2 partials this season – finished 2nd with 148 wins (57.8%). With 11 wins in Week 17, he jumps from T-4th to end up soloing 2nd Place. I had to search way back to find J.P.s last $$ Finish – it was a 12th in 2004! Welcome Back! MIRICLE PICKS (Lester Cohen) solo’s 3rd Place with 147 wins (57.4%) Winning 3 Partial weeks in a season never hurts! Lester’s last $$ finish was a T-13th in 2007. DEADWOOD DEKE (Donlad. K. Donald) – RUBBADUBDUB (Jerry Weinstein) & SWAMPDONKEYS (CT Steckel) all finish T-4th with 146 wins (57.0%). SHOTLISTER (Marty Erlichman) – MARSBARS (Andy & Bud Mars) & MAIDEN LANE GIRL (Sharon Feldstein) finish T-7th with 145 wins (56.6%). Any of these Top-9 finishers were in position to win it ALL with a strong winning Week 17. That’s the most contending teams we’ve ever had going into the last week of the season! The highest finisher – with NO Weekly Wins - in T-4th Place was DEADWOOD DEKE (Donald K. Donald). 7 of the Top-15 got NO Weekly win money all season – that’s impressive! 4 teams that won 2 weekly checks & that did NOT finish in the $$ were: SOLOMENTE (Howard Beech): T-16th Place – FAMILY MAN (Jonathan Schwartz): T-26th Place – LIPPS LOCKS (Matt Lipp): T-52nd Place & WHITE TRASH 1 (Paul White): 60th Place. It takes a WHOLE season: Best record in Weeks 1-6 was EL GUAPO CANTINA (Mike Butler) 61.1% - finished T-16th Overall > > > Best record Weeks 7-12 was SHAYJACK (J.P. Williams) at 64.4% - finished 2nd > > > Best record Weeks 13-17 (when it counts most) was LETTERBOXED (Scott Gelman & Barry Bell) at 62.5% - finished 1 spot short at 16th as well. The TOP-15 was the cut-off at 138 wins. (133 in 2009 >> 136 in 2008 >> 139 in 2007). Over the course of the season, we counted 256 games - as for the 50% mark – that’s 128 wins or more - Our Pool has just completed a ‘record’ year with 56 of 80 attaining that mark – that’s 70% of the pool! WOW! This after a bad 4-year trend: (37 of 80 in 2009 & 43 in 2008 & 50 in 2007) To finish in the ‘money’ all you needed to do was go just 10 measly games over .500 to reach 138 Overall wins – this season, that was 53.9% for a $$ Finish. In 2009 it was 51.9% - it was 52.7% in 2008 and was 54.3% in 2007. All the TOP-15 Finishers (listed at the end) should take a bow now for picking at least a 53.9% clip to end up with a ‘great’ 2010 season! LAST PLACE: Only 110 wins (43.0%) – last year it was 105 wins at 41%. Even a NY Jets playoff run couldn’t spark 80TH DRIVE (Rob Prinz) out of the cellar. After Week 5, Rob took control of this spot and unfortunately – he could NEVER look up! Rob finished in T-31th last season and is the 2010 Last Place Winner. Enjoy your consolation prize of $100. (it’s actually a lot more than myself and others won) THE LOCK: Last year, it lasted ALL 17 weeks and 2 split the pie. This year it COULD have come down to 2 survivors in Week 17 if not for an unusual Tuesday Night football game in Philadelphia, 2 days after 15 games had already been played. Prior to this game – 11 of the 13 survivors had already lost out – all BAD AXX (Jeremy Olson) & SWAMPDONKEYS (CT Steckel) needed was a VIKING defeat. They thought having the EAGLES in Week 16 was TREMENDOUS! It never happened and so ended the 2010 Lock Pool. A grand total of 13 Survived! With $3,200 in this pool, a Winners share here is worth $246. For the 2 mentioned above, that’s a difference of $1,354. Come to think of it – a $100 side bet on the Minnesota money line would have been worth about $700. WHO KNEW? To all our winners: GIMPE (David Ellman) – LESSER THAN ZERO (J.J. Erlichman) – MARSBARS (Andy & Bud Mars) – MIRICLE PICKS (Lester Cohen) – MR. WRONG (Jerry Mickelson) – NASH! (John Huie & Jeff Krones) – PINBONUS (Tony Behrstock) – SO CAL REBS (Jon & Jim) – THE LEGENDS (Lou Blair & Bruce Allen) – THE WOLVES (The Barnett Brothers) & TREEKILLERS (Mike Murphy & Mark Pearson) - NICE JOB! MNF POINTS: $500. for 1st, $300. for 2nd, and $150. for 3rd. It always comes down to the last game of the season and this year it was the Playoff Play-In game: St. Louis Rams at the Seattle Seahawks. What a boring offensive affair OR should we call it a ‘defensive gem’? Seattle wins 16-6 for a total of 22 points. Just under 20 points of the Under/Over Total of 41.5 Points. OVER/UNDERS ended up 9 – 8 vs the spread for the season > > > 8 Teams entered Week 17 within 6 points of each other > > > even after gaining 14 points this week, ORIENT EXPRESS (Adam Kornfeld & Carl Freed) manage to hold on and win – they were the 12th-MEN in Seattle! Their Final Point total was 198. They were the only team under 200 Overall Points. (148 points won the pool last year) – I guess the ‘overs’ were WAY over – that’s 50 points more than last season. MR. WRONG (Jerry Mickelson) ends up in 2nd Place (even after gaining 16 this week) with 203 Overall. But, after gaining only 7 points in Week 17 – TREEKILLERS (Mike Murphy & Mark Pearson) bust through to take 3rd Place with 204 Points. CORNHUSTLERS (Rich Maize) added 16 points and falls 1 point short at 205 – OUCH! F.Y.I.: I say this every year - when all is "said-and-done" just think of all the games you lost at the very end of the game/OT - a few of these wins could have put you in the Top-15 >> then again for others – “Chalk it off as an Off-Year” . . . What a difference a year makes, from last years 17 money finishers – only 1 makes a return to the 2010 Leaderboard: BAD AXX (Jeremy Olson), finishing T-12th last year and T-11th this year > > > Just goes to show how hard it is to put 2 good seasons back-to-back > > > there were 7 repeaters from 2008 to 2009 > > > hats off to the DETROIT LIONS who covered in 12 of 16 games, unlike the CAROLINA PANTHERS who covered in only 3 of 16 games, if you were on those bandwagons all season, you did good! > > > . . . if you took EVERY FAVORITE all season, (most people do take favorites) you would have ended up with 122 wins, that 16 shy of a $$ finish at 138 . . the FAVORITES were horrible this season, covering under 50% of the time: 122 vs 134 . . . HOME TEAMS did no better going 123 vs 133 . . . HOME DOGS were just average, going 45–43 ATS this season . . . What has happened to ‘home field advantage’? . . . . Over the course of the entire 2010 season, 38 different people (47.5%) of the pool got back a CHECK, either Weekly Wins or Points Pool or Lock Pool or Last. As for 2010 CAA - Bragging-Rights it really was nothing to brag about, considering they had a 2nd and two 3rd overall finishers last season. This season - PB & J (Mitch & Jack Rose) take the honor with a T-23rd performance. DAD & SONS (Rob Light) used ‘autopicks’ about 80% of the season! What’s that all about? The distribution for the 2010 Winners is as follows:
I hope everybody had a great season and won a little money elsewhere if not here. Have a Great Year and a Happy New Year . . . . |
