WEEK 17 ( FINAL RESULTS for the 2007 Season) . . . .

THE WEEK: Nothing like winning the Final week of the season – come to think of it – Nothing like SOLO winning the Final 2 weeks of the season! We can now check that off as a ‘POOL RECORD’ that has happened! Because, that is exactly what MOE LAWNS (Peter Baron & Ross Zapin) have done – going 13-2 each of the last 2 weeks. This week, the Sunday night game didn’t even matter. You would think a strong finish like this would have put a kink in the Leader board, but even with 26 wins (and $2,200.), MOE LAWNS finishes just tied for 31st overall. (they were in 68th before their run). This season there were 9 ‘SOLO’ weekly winners as compared to 7 last season.

THE GRID: Lets all congratulate INSIDE FAKE (Mike Renault) for rebounding back from 5 wins last week and getting 10 wins in Week 17 to secure sole possession of 1st place and the league crown jewel – BIG MONEY! Mike wins the title with only 1 partial weekly win this season – back in Week 4. He took over sole possession of First Place after Week 13 and never looked back! Mike’s double-digit week gives him a 3 win victory with 150 Overall Wins (a strong 58.6%). Compare that to 2006: 144 total wins (56.3%) and to 2005: 152 total wins (59.4%). INSIDE FAKE did finish in 4th in 2005 so I guess this is not that big a surprise! So, once again, let’s all give our ‘dues’ to Mike Renault’s tremendous football season. Now, not to downplay the accomplishments of the top finishers . . . MAIDEN LANE GIRL (Sharon Feldstein) – 2nd Place, just 2 behind - with 148 Overall wins. Sharon hates it when I refer to her as the ‘only women in the pool’, but she is and deserves her due! She finishes 2nd with NO weekly win checks. This is Sharon’s best finish ever, since finishing T-14th in 2001. LETTERBOXED (Scott Gelman) saved his best for last and moved from 8th to 5th to finish in 3rd the last 3 weeks. A 3rd Place finish with NO weekly win checks either. Scott finished with 145 Overall wins. We might have expected a little more from ORIENT EXPRESS (Adam Kornfeld & Karl Freed) as they had the most ‘weekly winner’ checks: 2 solo & 1 partial. They tied for 4th Place with MRPINK (Matt Lichtenberg), both with 144 Overall wins. Surprisingly, both of these 2 teams finished in the Top-5 back in 2003. ORIENT EXPRESS finished in 12th last season as well. The TOP-21 was the cut-off at 139 wins. (Last season it was 133 wins) Over the course of the season, we counted 256 games - as for the 50% mark - 128 wins - 54 of our 80 reached it (21 more than last season – boy did people do good this year!). To finish in the ‘money’ all you needed to do was go 22 games over .500 or 54.3% for the season – that shouldn’t be that hard. All of the TOP-21 Finishers (listed at the end) should take a bow now for a great 2007 season!

LAST PLACE: 109 wins (42.3%) (it was 102 last season) 42.3% doesn’t sound ‘that bad’ but it was bad enough to make WILLMAKES3 (Steve Lashever) this year’s $100. Last Place winner. And all this, coming off last seasons 9th Place Overall finish and CAA ‘bragging rights’. Enjoy the $100. consolation prize.

THE LOCK: It lasted 13 weeks! And like last year, it came down to 3 teams in the end. MURDER CITY (Rick Franks) out ‘guesses’ GIMPE (David Ellman) and SO CAL REBS (Jon Scott). All $3,200. goes to Rick (who finished in 74th overall).

MNF POINTS: $500. for 1st, $300. for 2nd, and $150. for 3rd. It came down to the last game Indy vs Tennessee. A lot ‘fewer’ points were scored than expected. But just enough to give SHOMES (Bud Prager) the MNF Points Title! He wins with 156 Overall Points. That is quite an accomplishment considering last years winner had 172 points. Out of nowhere, SEABISCUITT (Billy Chusid) finishes in 2nd Place with 162 Overall points. MONTYS REVENGE (Neil Gallow) who had led the previous 5 weeks, TANKS and luckily was able to force a 3-way tie for 3rd place with MR. WRONG (Jerry Mickelson) and MADMAC71 (Rob McDermott), all with 163 Overall points. The 3 Third Place winners will each get $50. BAD AXX (Jeremy Olson) missed by 3 points with 166.

F.Y.I.: When all is "said-and-done" just think of all the games you lost (more than you won) at the very end of the game/OT - a few of these wins could have put you in the Top-21 . . . From Last years' 17 money finishers - 7 hit the board this season, including the Top-3: CROSSROAD ELEPHANTS / MIRICLE PICKS / MANDINGO’S. The others were LUCY’S REVENGE / RUBBADUBDUB / ORIENT EXPRESS and LIPPS LOCK (Matt Lipp) who needed 11 wins the last week to finish in the money 6 of the last 7 seasons, winning it ALL in 2001 . . . QUASIMODO (Doug Banker) did not receive ANY check this years for the 1st time in League history . . . The League's OVERALL WIN TOTAL of 150 Wins was 6 more than last season – a reflection that FAVORITES did very well this season. HOME DOGS struggled! . . . Only 7 teams that finished in the Top-21 did not receive a Weekly Winners check . . . 80TH PLACE (Rob Prinz) had 2 partial weekly wins and could only manage 54th Place overall. Over the course of the entire 2007 season, 39 different people (just under 50%) got back a CHECK, either Weekly Wins or Points or Lock pool (it was only 28 people last year) . . . CAA Bragging-Rights: while it wasn’t a Top-21 finish, PB & J (Mitch & Jack Rose) have this years honor by finishing in 41st Place. Had Tennessee covered on the last night, 140 wins would have been the cutoff. Indy covering let 6 (of the 9 teams with 139 wins) in the back door!
