2009 NCAA BASKETBALL FINAL NEWS: And so ends another College Basketball Season! 13 Different teams were picked in our pool as National Champions – 78 (24%) picked North Carolina. 23% went with Pittsburgh, 22% had Louisville, 12% had Memphis, 10% had UCONN. NOT ONE entry had #2 seed Michigan State – NO respect for the National Runner-ups! So after last years first time, 4 #1 seed in the Final 4, this year it a 1 – 1 – 2 – 3 combo. Only 1 entry had all 4 teams correct: WE AIN’T SPLIBS-2, and they finished T-7th. Only 3 entries had the exact final – they finished in 1st, 2nd & T-21st place. Leading to the Sweet 16, the Tournament was very much to form as 14 of the Sweet 16 teams were either a 1, 2 or 3 seed. As for the Sweet 16 games, 6 of the 8 games were blowouts decided by 16 points or more. The pool had a record 329 entries – 10% of the entries will receive Prize Money. 121 points was the cutoff. 5 of our 32 winners did NOT have North Carolina winning. 7 of our 32 winners need North Carolina to win for them to win Prize Money. Not only did North Carolina dominate throughout the Tournament, covered ALL of their 6 tournament games rather easily. They truly were the best team and deserved to win. The Pool ended up with a RECORD 329 entries (15 more than last year). The Playoff Pool came to $10,397. As in the past, rather than give a huge payday to the winner, we opt to reward as many people as possible – about 10% of the pool - resulting in 33 Prize Winners in 2009. This years winner was SPARTANJAMES (James Shryock). While I can’t be 100% sure, but you gotta believe SPARTANJAMES is a ‘huge’ Michigan State fan. He did pick them to be in the Championship game. But, he must have known something, because he did pick them to lose to North Carolina as well. Strangely, had Michigan State won, SPARTANJAMES would have finished in 2nd, not 1st. He wasn’t even able to root for his team in the game! James Shryock is our 2009 KING OF THE HILL this season and is awarded a $1,600 First Place prize. There was NO multiple winner this year, but there were FAMILY winners: The Lights, The Weinsteins, The Chusids & The Palos. There were only 3 ‘Repeat Winners’ from last year: Taylor Light, Worthy Patterson and Mark Sullivan. FYI: Taylor and Mark Sullivan have collected Prize Money the past 3 years. Who do they know?
